Ongoing Consultancy - Proposal Writer

The proposal writer consultancy is ongoing. Lutheran World Relief (LWR) maintains a consultant database of proposal writers to contribute to our business development efforts.

Lutheran World Relief seeks experienced, successful proposal writing consultants for competitive proposals to institutional donors, including USAID, USDA, EuropeAid, and Foundations. As a proposal writer, you will work as part of the proposal development team in collaboration with LWR's Strategic Partnerships and International Programs departments to develop high quality, competitive proposals.

Please note, this is not a full time position. Consultants will be contacted short-term proposal writing opportunities.




• Responsible for completing a high-quality, competitive technical proposal (narrative) incompliance with the donor requirements and LWR standards.
• Ensures the entire technical proposal is written. This includes writing sections of the proposal and/or assigning sections of the proposals to others.
• Works closely with the Proposal Technical Content Coordinator to gather necessary information for the proposal.
• Works closely with the Technical Design Facilitator to understand and present the project design.
• Compiles all sections into one coherent, final draft with a consistent style and voice.
• Ensures that pink and red team review comments are addressed.
• Ensures that the Corporate Capacity Statement and Past Performance References (PPRs) are complete and that they align with the technical design and solicitation.
• Ensures alignment between the Cost Proposal and Technical Proposal.
• Responsible for completing a high-quality, competitive technical proposal (narrative) incompliance with the donor requirements and LWR standards.

• At least 3 years of proposal writing experience in the development sector;
• Proven track record in proposal writing, as evidenced by client and donor feedback and proposal win rate;
• Proven ability to work collaboratively, multitask, and be flexible and responsive to quickly-changing demands;
• Experience conducting in-depth interviews with subject matter experts and synthesizing the information into meaningful feedback or prose;
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work under tight internal and external proposal submission deadlines;
• Strong communication skills. The ability to work as a culturally aware team player and able to work in an international setting;
• Ability to write logically, clearly and concisely.
• Ability to travel, including international travel. Travel may be to countries that are experiencing political instability and have poor infrastructure including poor road conditions, limited amenities and poor housing accommodations. In addition, the travel may be to countries where infectious diseases or vector-borne diseases are present. Travel may be required to locales that experience extreme temperatures (either hot or cold) and high altitudes.
• Fluency in English is required. Fluency and professional writing skills in French and/or Spanish is considered a valuable asset. Native or bilingual proficiency in French and/or Spanish should be indicated in your cover letter.
