Human Resources Coordinator

The Human Resources (HR) Coordinator’s essential role and priority is to provide excellent support to the Human Resources team at Lutheran World Relief.  The Human Resources Coordinator will have direct responsibility for complete HR support, to include the efficient day-to-day administration of all HR processes. The HR Coordinator must provide excellent customer service, demonstrate initiative and responsibility with a can-do attitude, and complete projects in a timely manner with positive results.

1. Benefits Administration

• Assist in benefits administration (medical, dental, life, commuting, etc.) on a day-to-day basis and serve as point-person for benefits related issues for both staff and vendors  

• Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all vendors and providers

• Provide benefits orientation, on-boarding and off-boarding, and distribution of required notices

• Maintain census information as required by vendors

• Receive, review for accuracy, prepare and submit benefit carrier invoices to accounting for timely payment processing

• Ensure that data required for plan audits and reporting is accurate and provided as needed


2. Recordkeeping and Administration

• Review, revise, streamline general HR processes and procedures, templates, and forms to ensure efficiency and effectiveness; recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to improve efficiency and service

• Ensure accuracy of employee data

• Assume responsibility for efficient setup and maintenance of all HR files and records; assume responsibility as primary record keeper

• Conduct periodic audits of HR files to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations

• Develop statistics and reports as required

• Respond to employment verification requests as required


3. Recruitment

• Support and manage recruitments effort for exempt and nonexempt personnel, temporary employees and proposals.

• Screen applications and disseminate applications to hiring managers

• Help to ensure that hiring managers comply with recruitment policies and procedures and build their capacity in the effective use of the associated systems, tools, and processes

• Ensure the required background clearances are received and processed prior to candidate's start date

• Serve as the lead on staff transitions; including all necessary coordination with managers, operations and IT staff to address obtaining or returning of equipment and supplies


4. International Human Resources Support

• Assist in processing and reviewing international staff contracts

• Act as point person for international staff to resolve issues with the online timekeeping system

• Maintain spreadsheets of international staff information

• Perform English/French translation of HR documents and forms


5. Engagement in ongoing professional development.


6. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


1. Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners

2. Minimum of 3-5 years of clerical and/or administrative experience with at least 1-2 years of HR experience

3. Strong computer skills, with proven experience in Word, Excel and Outlook. Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or other Human Resource Information System (HRIS) software; iApplicant or other applicant tracking software is preferred

4. Demonstrated exceptional customer service mindset

5. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the agency

6. Strong ability to communicate effectively in English and French, both verbally and in writing REQUIRED

7. Ability to follow instructions and policy

8. Good analytical and judgment skills to identify and resolve problems

9. Proven ability to assess priorities and manage a variety of complex activities simultaneously and professionally

10. Exceptional time management and quality control skills with attention to detail that ensure accurate and timely delivery of work products

11. A high level of confidentiality required

12. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.

13. Familiarity with Lutheranism, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities preferred
