Quilt & Kit Ministry Manager

Description:This position manages all domestic components of LWR-IMA's Quilt & Kit Ministry, tying together its tradition and historical value with innovative new opportunities for congregations, groups and individuals to put their faith into action. From developing outreach and educational strategies, to the creation and dissemination of the communications and materials for groups and congregations, this position seeks to inform, inspire and encourage quilters and kit-makers within and outside congregations to begin, continue and deepen their commitment to LWR-IMA through quilts and kits and beyond, including acquisition of individual quilters and kit-makers in addition to their engagement in local groups. The Quilt & Kit Ministry Manager is responsible for relationship building and resource-equipping Key Leaders and Site Coordinators and serves as a strategic representative for LWR-IMA with those volunteers as well as with key organizations, congregations and influencers. In addition, the Manager represents LWR-IMA at events and at congregations, helping to initiate, manage and implement those opportunities that fall within the scope of the position focus.
Duties:

• Be responsible and accountable for engaging U.S. Lutherans and other people of faith effectively in the work of LWR-IMA and ensuring that the organization's work in marginalized communities is of the highest quality and integrity.

• Be responsible and accountable for engaging constituents effectively in the work of LWR-IMA and ensuring that the Quilt & Kit Ministry is of the highest quality and integrity.

• Lead the development of strategic promotions, campaigns and communications for the Quilt & Kit Ministry and to acquire new constituents.

• Initiate, develop and implement the Ministry's marketing communication plan in collaboration with the MarCom team. Annually produce several periodic and as-needed publications, videos and new media. Maintain content of Quilt & Kit Ministry section of LWR-IMA's website to ensure timely and accurate information that is easy for constituents to find and understand. Identify and contribute content for news releases, web features, newsletter or media articles, and other educational materials for LWR-IMA and partners as appropriate.

• Serve as a spokesperson for LWR-IMA at congregations, group meetings and events. Assist in the planning for high-impact presence at key regional and national events

• Develop and implement volunteer management strategy for 60+ Key Leaders and 130+ Site Coordinators throughout the U.S. to ensure sustainability and growth of LWR-IMA in gatherings.

• Recruit new Key leaders, equip and train the Key Leaders to be ambassadors for LWR-IMA, manage challenges and serve as their main point of contact for LWR-IMA.

• Collaborate with Philanthropic Engagement to design and implement fundraising efforts on Quilt & Kit Shipping Fund and the Good Samaritan Quilt Plaza.

• Collaborate with the Emergency Operations team to monitor trends and to adjust plans as necessary, as well as to evaluate and amend the Quilt & Kit Ministry and guidelines as appropriate and communicate those changes with engaged audiences. Collaborate with the Emergency Operations team to identify stories and news to share with constituents, and to manage warehouse operations related to customer service and accurate receipting of donations.

• Manage the Quilt & Kit Ministry portion of the annual operational plan and budget of the Outreach and Engagement unit.

• Ensure timely, accurate and thorough entry; ongoing management and optimal use of data in Raisers Edge relating to individuals, groups and congregations as related to quilters and kit-makers.

• Manage the Marketing & Outreach Fellow.

Qualifications:• Undergraduate degree and at least five years of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in congregational ministry, grassroots community organizing, volunteer management and/or adult non-formal education.
• Strong familiarity with Lutheran theology, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities; previous work in church context (especially Lutheran) highly preferred.
• Expertise in all areas of communication, including strong writing skills and superior oratory skill and the ability to speak compellingly and with ease to a wide range of audiences.
• Experience in developing content for faith-based curriculum or ministry programming (youth and family, outdoor ministry, etc.).
• Demonstrated project management experience, including publication design, print production and website content management.
• Strong leadership and consensus building skills.
• Proven management experience and ability to supervise both internal staff and a large network of volunteer leaders throughout the United States.
• Exhibits skills of diplomacy. Able to work productively with a wide array of different people and institutions that may disagree and could be in competition with one another.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required; experience with Raisers Edge or other database management programs a plus.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally. International travel may be to countries that are experiencing political instability and have poor infrastructure, including poor road conditions, limited amenities and poor housing accommodations. In addition, the travel may be to countries where infectious diseases or vector-borne diseases are present. Travel may be required to locales that experience extreme temperatures (either hot or cold) and high altitudes.

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through on projects and policies; good organization skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks productively.
• Ability to work as part of a team, both internally with fellow staff as well as with LWR-IMA's partners and allies; excellent interpersonal skills.
• Creativity, imagination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adjust direction and strategies.
• Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
