Congregational Resources Specialist

Description:The Congregational Resources Specialist identifies and develops congregational resources to educate, inspire and engage U.S. Lutherans in the work of Lutheran World Relief, collaborating with LWR staff and qualified volunteers. The position also ensures effective distribution of the resources and ongoing support to congregations in using them.
Duties: 
  1. Responsible and accountable for engaging U.S. Lutherans effectively in the work of LWR and ensuring that LWR's work in marginalized communities is of the highest quality and integrity. In collaboration with other External Relations colleagues identify congregational resource needs for programs including: Fair Trade, Quilt & Kit Ministry, Lutheran Malaria Initiative, Specific topics such as water or hunger, Youth engagement or children's ministries, LWR Gifts.
  2. Develop and lead work plans for development and production of resources, hands-on activities and other engagement initiatives, recruiting and supervising qualified volunteers (clergy and lay) to contribute writing or other creative skills to the resources.
  3. Work with internal and out-sourced design, printing and other production services to develop concepts for and create final produced resources keeping within budget.
  4. Develop promotion and distribution plans to ensure finished resources are known to and easily accessible for the targeted audiences.
  5. Monitor and evaluate the effective of resources, making adjustments as necessary to subsequent editions and plans for other resource production.
  6. Direct the resourcing of LWR staff and volunteers who serve as spokespeople in congregations and at events. Serve as one of LWR's spokespeople.
  7. Manage the vendor relationship for fulfillment services, monitor resource inventories; communicate with appropriate colleagues on systems related to inventory management and fulfillment
  8. Other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications: 
  1. Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  2. At least five (5) years of experience, and a record of accomplishments and results in grassroots community organizing, education or ministry.
  3. Strong familiarity with Lutheran theology, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities; previous work in church context (especially Lutheran) highly preferred.
  4. Demonstrated success in developing educational resources for faith-based groups (e.g. Sunday school curricula, Bible studies, devotions), individually and as a team. Experience developing interactive online resources and hands-on activities a plus.
  5. BA in education or other relevant field. Lutheran theological training, such as Associate in Ministry or Director of Christian Education, an asset. 
  6. Expertise in all areas of communication, including the ability to speak confidently in public and to write engaging and appropriate content.
  7. Ability to work as part of a team, both internally with fellow staff as well as with volunteers; excellent interpersonal skills.
  8. Creativity, imagination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adjust direction and strategies.
  9. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage multiple priorities by maintaining a high level of organization.
  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required; experience with Raisers Edge or other database management programs a plus.
  11. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  12. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
