Description:

The Lutheran Malaria Initiative (LMI) is entering a two-year ramp up to action with the goal of raising $45 million.  This position would serve as the operations center for all things under the Special Initiatives banner and by extension, The LMI fundraising campaign.  This position would be responsible for the management, partner relations, systems coordination and decision making related to the day-to-day operations and activity benchmarks of the Special Initiatives effort (LMI campaign) at an operations director level.

This position will be based at the LWR headquarters in Baltimore, MD or the LWR office in Minneapolis, MN.

Duties:

 

  1. Responsible for, and makes decisions concerning, the strategy, activities, benchmarks, and general management of the day to day work of the LMI $45 million campaign.
  2. Project Management: chair and supervise numerous resource design teams, communications committees and events related to the LMI campaign; collaborate closely with external consultants to ensure project milestones are met; create and maintain a project schedule of actions to be taken for all parties in carrying out responsibilities; manage a wide variety of tasks from multiple internal stakeholders, negotiate and communicate priorities and deadlines
  3. Meetings/Communication:  engage in regular communication with key partners to share successes, identify challenges and make decisions to assure the ongoing momentum of the LMI campaign; ensure timely scheduling of meetings; create agendas and talking points when appropriate.
  4. Grant Management:  ensure campaign benchmarks are met and reported; ensure the maintenance of the LMI dashboard, unified physical and electronic LMI files and  prepare reports for audit; track all agreements and negotiations; facilitate transfer of funds with donor and with sub-grantee; manage reporting timelines for LWR and sub-grantee.
  5. Campaign Resources:  provide oversight to individuals developing LMI resources (matrixed or outsourced); oversee progress to ensure products are created in accordance with timeline, are appropriately edited and get proper approvals; provide ongoing education to staff and partners on use of resources.
  6. Representational: travels and speaks as called upon on behalf of LMI to venues that span the constituency.  Represents LMI at key meetings of partners and stakeholders.
  7. Budget:  assures through regular monitoring and decision making that campaign expenses are within the approved budget.  Plays a major role in all budget design and forecasting.
  8. Engagement in ongoing professional development.
  9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications: 
  1. Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  2. Bachelor's degree required.  Master's degree in business/leadership/management related field preferred.
  3. At least 4 years management experience in a closely related field.
  4. Proven success in managing fundraising campaigns and/or constituent engagement.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and constituent management related software.
  6. Ability to travel up to 20 percent of time including some weekend and occasional international travel.
  7. Proven success managing within a matrixed (cross-functional team) work environment where influence and common goals are effectively used to fulfill role in the place of positional authority.
  8. Proven success in organizational change and innovation initiatives.
  9. Nonprofit management experience including experience with international work preferred.
  10. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  11. Familiarity with Lutheranism, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities preferred.
