Philanthropic Advisor � Mid-Level Donors

Description:The Philanthropic Advisor - Mid-Level Donors works closely with Philanthropic Engagement leadership and team members to lead and manage the mid-level donor program, which consists of individuals who are currently giving or capable of giving $1,000-$5,000 to the annual fund of LWR.  This includes development of implementation plans for mid-level engagement, utilizing audience research, wealth screening information, & existing data on prior behavior of LWR's mid-level donors, and management of his or her own portfolio of approximately 300 mid-level prospects.  In addition, the Philanthropic Advisor - Mid-Level Donors will actively work to deepen relationships with mid-level donors to increase donor retention & grow the yield from the mid-level donor segment's philanthropic capacity.  This position will also be responsible for identifying the major donor prospects within the mid-level donor portfolio, which is crucial to amplifying the efficiency of the major donor program.
Duties: 
  1. Be responsible and accountable for engaging US Lutherans effectively in the work of LWR and ensuring that LWR's work in marginalized communities is communicated with integrity.
  2. Make and manage donor assignments for the Mid-Level team. Manage to overall moves management process for the mid-level program, ensuring time and budget resources are fully leveraged and invested wisely.
  3. Work within the Philanthropic Engagement team to develop and implement strategies that connect donors to the work of LWR. A creative employment of various mediums will need to be developed and implement to achieve this task.
  4. Prepare regular activity reports and updates on activities that clearly indicate progress on departmental and organizational goals related to donor cultivation and return on investment in mid-level donor programs. Meet with Associate Director of Philanthropic Engagement biweekly to review activity reports and discuss strategy.
  5. Work collaboratively with the Philanthropic Advisors to identify major gift donor prospects among the mid-level donors and help steward donors who have reached their maximum giving potential.
  6. Conveys goals and objectives clearly and in a compelling manner; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed; interprets verbal and non-verbal messages that others communicate; produces clear status reports; communicates tactfully and candidly.
  7. Understands how and when to make a choice; how and when to escalate issues to higher levels; and analyzes the risks and future impact of decisions.
  8. Work with the Director & Associate Director of Philanthropic Engagement to develop and manage the process of implementing a comprehensive action plan to cultivate and solicit individual gifts, both current and future, from a pool of assigned donors. Personally cultivate, solicit and sustain annual giving donors.
  9. Provide guidance and, when needed, participate in the development of solicitation materials and donor recognition and retention tools.
  10. Develop personalized proposals that address the donor's interest.
  11. Work with ER team to help develop direct mail strategies for mid-level donors.
  12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:

 

  1. Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  2. Undergraduate degree and at least five (5) years of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in fundraising.
  3. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills combined with an ability to prioritize demands.
  4. Strong understanding of Philanthropy and donors' motivations for giving.
  5. Strong leadership skills and the ability to skillfully gauge and adapt to audiences.
  6. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through on projects and policies; good organization skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks productively.
  7. Creativity, imagination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adjust direction and strategies.
  8. Applied experience in research and data analysis.
  9. Ability to convey goals and objectives clearly and in a compelling manner.
  10. Strong capacity and experience in Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database.
  11. Experience in using and monitoring Moves Management or similar donor development process.
  12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to use advanced spreadsheet functions to analyze donor trends and fundraising results.
  13. Seasoned judgment, able to make decisions, justify recommendations, and be responsive, clear and firm with colleagues and partners.
  14. Able to adapt to a complex working environment in which influence is often exerted indirectly rather than through traditional chain of command hierarchies.  Successful experience in leveraging ideas and creating projects that produce measureable results.
  15. Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally up to 30% of time.
  16. Strong familiarity with Lutheranism, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities; previous work in church context highly preferred.
  17. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  18. Exceptional judgment and initiative - the ability to operate in a deployed context and make frequent decisions independently.
  19. Must be a self-starter, highly organized and able to work well with staff from all areas and levels of LWR.
  20. Courtesy and diplomacy in working with a wide variety of people who adhere to a wide range of beliefs.
  21. Commitment to the Association of Lutheran Development Executive's Code of Ethics and Donor Bill of Rights.
