Program Manager, Lutheran Malaria Initiative

PURPOSE:

The Program Manager for the Lutheran Malaria Initiative (LMI) is responsible for technical support, management and administration of LWR's pan-regional Lutheran Malaria Initiative.  Primary responsibilities include: (1) Project administration of LMI resources and grant opportunities; (2) Assist Deputy Regional Director, Africa (Program Director, Lutheran Malaria Initiative)in project management and support of LMI programs; (3) Secure and manage LMI-related United States of America Government (USG) and foundation grants and funding.

Duties:
  1. Monitor and backstop all LMI funded (unrestricted and restricted) programs and provide support to regional offices through reporting, regular communication with field staff, and monitoring trips
  2. Coordinate with International Program Department, overseas teams & New Business Development Unit on LWR's malaria opportunities and lead proposal development process as needed
  3. Support development of and periodic review and revision of  LMI overseas program management tools and processes
  4. Identify and lead training initiatives for both HQ and field staff related to malaria prevention and control
  5. Participate in ongoing professional development
  6. Engage US Lutherans effectively in the work of LWR and ensure that LWR's work in marginalized communities is of the highest quality and integrity
  7. Other job related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  1. Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners
  2. Bachelor's degree in Public Health or the equivalent. A master's degree is highly desirable
  3. At least five years experience working in a program-related, administrative capacity with an international development or humanitarian agency
  4. Familiarity with key public health, development, and socio-economic justice issues at a practical and policy level. Practical and intellectual familiarity with the specific countries where LWR works. Specific experience with malaria control programming a plus
  5. Familiarity with rules and regulations that apply to funding from U.S. Government agencies and ability to produce US government and foundation grant proposals and reports.
  6. Experience in financial management with strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  7. Strong analytical and excellent writing and communication skills in English and French
  8. Highly proficient in using Word, Excel, Outlook, database and web browser software. 
  9. Good interpersonal skills, ability to be both a team leader and a team player and to work with people of varied backgrounds
  10. Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 30% of time), including adverse conditions and/or disaster zones
  11. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  12. Familiarity with Lutheranism, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities preferred
  13. Familiarity with key political, economic, and social justice issues at a practical and policy level. Practical and intellectual familiarity with public health issues in Africa. Understanding of issues related to public health in Asia helpful
  14. Ability to effectively represent organization to internal and external audiences
