Livestock Value Chain Technical Expert

LWR is currently seeking a Livestock Value Chain Technical Expert for an anticipated Feed the Future Livestock Market Systems Activity in Kenya funded by USAID. The project will enable people, households, and communities to increase their resilience, sustainably moving out of poverty and chronic vulnerability.
Duties:
 
  • Identify market and business enabling barriers to livestock sector competitiveness, and work with project partners and stakeholders to develop private-sector led solutions. 
  • Identify capacity gaps across the broad range of livestock market system actors, and facilitate capacity building plans and access to training services. 
  • Design and implement a market-led strategy that incentivizes private sector investment in upgrading the livestock market infrastructure and supporting services. 
  • Identify and work closely with lead and intermediate private sector firms, building their capacity on firm-led services reaching pastoralist communities. 
  • Facilitate private sector investment in embedded services, expansion to rural areas, and other innovative solutions. 
  • Liaise closely with financial institutions, end-markets, and service providers to increase pastoralist access to markets. 
  • Promote a culture of learning across project stakeholders that leads to improved and more transparent market access, improved natural resource management, and inclusion of vulnerable groups, women and youth.
Qualifications:
 
  • Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
     
  • Advanced degree in degree in business administration, finance, agronomy or related field. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in facilitating investment and partnerships in agricultural market systems, preferably in the livestock sector. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the economic, social, and cultural dynamics of pastoralist production systems in Northern Kenya. 
  • Demonstrated networks and trust relations with pastoralist communities. 
  • Demonstrated track record of working with financial service providers, investors, and private sector. 
  • Demonstrated strong writing and oral presentation skills in English. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
